Workaround for call recording when having magsafe issues or when using Airpods for calls

An effective workaround to record calls (when facing issues with magsafe attachment or if using Airpods) is to record the call in the Phone app and then export the recording to Pocket if you want the summary of that call to be merged into your overall Pocket summarisation history.

On iPhone (iOS 18 or later), recorded calls are saved to the Notes app, including an Apple transcription. Since the phone records through the system audio, its the best quality call recording available. The iPhone will automatically inform both parties that a recording is in progress, which also addresses privacy and consent issues.

You can import external audio files directly into the Pocket app as follows:

From the Mobile App:

  1. Open the Pocket app and navigate to the Home screen.
  2. Tap the overflow menu (three dots in the top right corner).
  3. Select Upload Audio.
  4. Choose the file from your device.

You can also upload audio files from your computer using the Pocket Web App or the Pocket Desktop App. Once uploaded, the audio is processed by Pocket’s AI exactly like a native Pocket recording.

Yes, I am using the Pro subscription.

I used ‘Ask Pocket’ in the app, to check if external audio source uploading is supported in the Free version, and it says that it is - here is the reply:

Yes, you can upload external audio files for transcription and summarization on the free plan.

While a Pocket Pro subscription offers advanced features like priority processing and support for recordings up to 4 hours, the core ability to import audio is available to all users.

How to upload:

  1. Open the Pocket app and go to the Home screen.
  2. Tap the three dots in the top right corner (overflow menu).
  3. Select Upload Audio.
  4. Choose the file from your device.

Once uploaded, Pocket will process the file to generate a transcript and summary just like a native recording. Note that on the free plan, your cloud history is limited to 30 days.
