Update: 90 days stays. We're not making the change ✅

Hey everyone

Following up on my post from yesterday.

We’re not doing it.

90 days of history stays. Unlimited transcription stays. Unlimited summaries stays.

If you noticed any conversations missing in the app, they’re back. Update the app to see everything restored.

I asked for your feedback and you gave it, fast and clear. You were right. So we killed it. Took us less than 24 hours to make the call.

For anyone who upgraded to Pro specifically because of yesterday’s email, we’ve already refunded you.

That’s the kind of company we want to be, one that moves fast in both directions.

Thanks for holding us to a high bar.

@Akshay This is exactly why so many of us trust and appreciate what you’re building — genuine listening, quick action, and transparency. It’s rare to see a company move this fast and own its decisions with humility. Thanks for taking feedback seriously and proving again that the community truly matters here. Really impressive work from you and the team — respect. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

@Akshay i’m proud of you for listening to us founders. I know a few folks were upset at me because i recommended pocket ai to them and they couldn’t believe it. I told them, don’t worry, this company is different and they actually care about their customers - this post just proves it.

As a founder and someone who has helped others get set up with Pocket AI, i’m proud to be part of a new wave of history in not only the way we let AI help us, but in forming a new type of landscape for the ways companies should behave.

You heard it here - in 10 years, this is the company that will be on the S&P 500!

Hey Akshay,

Thank you for listening to our feedback and reversing the decision. I’m sure it was an extremely challenging decision to make in both directions.

Can you give us any insight into how Pocket plans to resolve the cash burn given that we’ve identified this is an issue now? As much as I disliked the decision, I do/did not want Pocket to fail.

Will there be an intermediate tier introduced? Will you scale back unlimited transcriptions and implement the 14 day history for NEW users?

Because trust is so fragile, I’d like to know more about the business side, so that if I refer more users to Pocket, I know there is a plan in place for the long-term.

Thanks again,
John

Hey John

Appreciate you asking this directly. And appreciate that you want us to succeed, means a lot.

Here’s where we’re at:

  1. We’re not in crisis. The 14-day change was us being proactive about long term costs, not reactive to an emergency. We recently went through Y Combinator, we have the backing and the runway to build this the right way.

  2. The free tier stays. We’re growing revenue through Pro features, team plans, and new products, not by squeezing free users. That’s the model.

  3. Changes will come with notice. If we ever adjust the free plan, existing users will get grandfathered and given time to adjust. No surprises.

If you’re referring people to Pocket, you’re sending them to a company that just proved it listens and moves fast. We’re here for the long haul.

Thanks for the transparency, Akshay. That context helps a lot, and the commitment around notice and grandfathering goes a long way.

I’m glad to hear the team is building for the long haul.

Appreciate you taking the time to respond directly.

Thank you for listening, and for quickly reassessing and changing course. I can imagine how hard it is to try and balance cash flow, development, and growth early in a products existence.

Hopefully there are some other discussions happening about ways to create spaces for founders that both improves founders functionality, improves Pocket operational flow, and still honors the early investment in the product and the vision. There have been some really good ideas that have come out of these posts- hopefully something works and you can pitch some ideas, and get feedback from founders, as part of the ongoing evolution of pocket and “founding members”

I was ready to cancel my upcoming subscription (after my 90 day free Pro trial) for the Pro that was to start on Feb 1 at $149.99 for the year, because of the abrupt decision yesterday and then the reversal happened and I’m once again going with Pro. Kudos to @Akshay for the quick response in making the right decision.

I don’t know what this is in response to. Can you link it?

My app (Android) updated yesterday but I still have the 14 day limit on my stuff

hey we are checking up on the android update seems like google is taking longer than expected. meanwhile access will be available through app.heypocket.com cc @satyamx64

Thank you for the update

hey @ss18!

The new build is in review and will most likely roll out in a few hours.

Can you please confirm what app version you’re on currently (assuming you’re still getting the 14 day limit)? I’ll check this.

Thanks

Hey, kp1, I am not a Founding Member, but I have done the same. I recommended pocket to my team and moved them from purchasing a competitive product. My non profit organization now has 4 pocket devices. I told them that this was a responsive company and that it was managed different than the other with a competitive and, what appeared to be, a more established organization. I am still confused because when I bought the product I thought I could move from the Trial to annual at a cost of $149. My trial ends in 4 days and it will cost me now $200. It was probably a misunderstanding on my part and we will have to make a decision regarding paying now an extra $50 per each. But we, so far, are enjoying the product.
