I recently purchased the PocketAI device and have been enjoying the overall experience. The recording quality and AI-generated summaries are valuable features. However, I would like to share some feedback regarding the current data access model.
My primary concern is that recordings and summaries I create become inaccessible after 30 days unless I subscribe to a paid plan. I believe this approach should be reconsidered.
The recordings and summaries are my data, created using a device that I purchased. While I fully understand and support charging for premium AI capabilities and cloud services, I don’t believe users should lose access to their own data because they are not subscribed.
I would recommend the following approach:
• **Always allow users to access their own recordings and summaries** with read and manual edit capabilities, regardless of subscription status.
• **Store data locally by default** on the PocketAI device or the paired mobile device whenever possible. Cloud storage can remain an optional premium feature.
• **Reserve subscription benefits** for premium capabilities such as:
◦ Cloud backup and synchronization
◦ AI chat and follow-up interactions with historical recordings
◦ Re-summarization or advanced AI processing of older recordings
◦ Additional AI-powered productivity features
This model provides a much better balance between a sustainable business model and respecting customer ownership of their own data. Restricting AI features behind a subscription is understandable and aligns with industry practices. Restricting access to the user’s own recordings and summaries, however, creates the impression that customers no longer have control over content they generated using a device they purchased.
Providing perpetual access to personal data while monetizing premium AI services and cloud functionality would, in my opinion, be a more customer-friendly and industry-aligned approach. It would also build greater trust and confidence in the PocketAI ecosystem.
I hope you’ll consider this feedback as you continue to improve the product. I genuinely like the device and would love to see its user experience evolve in a way that better respects data ownership while still supporting your subscription model.
