Best use of Pocket?

I have posted a few issues, few feature updates. But all those are specific bugs, and there are plenty which is understandable.

However, I am curious - how are people best using it? How is this better/different than something like granola? Even Zoom and many other tools auto record my meetings and send me summaries. So is Pocket’s AI something magical? So far, it is not, cause its doing a poor job even tagging participants. I am recording meetings using Pocket, but on this mobile app, is not a screen on which I want to review convo summaries end of day. The mindmap is virtually unreadable.

So, back to start of this post - how are folks getting value out of this device?

Thank you for your insightful question. I truly hope that this topic attracts considerable attention and encourages active engagement and interaction from other users. Looking forward to meaningful discussions about this.

I love my Pocket. It changed my life for good.

I record all my classes and ask pocket to create list of questions and it even sometimes captures and amazes me at times with the details

They also launched a web app are you aware or just ranting?

Good to hear it’s working well for you.

Looks like web app just launched today, and i just found out based on your reply. So yea, I wasn’t aware, but thanks for responding to my rant.

Even if the original poster was ranting—and let’s be absolutely clear, they weren’t—how does a web app address any of the concerns that were raised?

OP mentions he is unable to view on small screen so it’s useless for them, that’s why I am mentioning about this?

Lack of web app was certainly a big issue for me, so I am excited to check out the web app.

Outside of this, I am genuinely interested to learn how folks are best using the device + app. I have recorded a bunch of meetings, but, unless i am doing something wrong, i have felt that i have to do a lot of summary edits, transcribe speakers, etc. And also, I want to see if it can stitch together convos related to a topic over time, it is not yet obvious to me.

I wrote this in hope of having a constructive discussion and learning from the community.

I’ve been using mine multiple ways. One has been as part of my podcast workflow for topic and content threads. I use the mind map as I’m talking about various topics and my initial thoughts to then drill into further (another recording) on a particular topic.

I’ve also used it while filming with guests so my team can get a headstart on social media posts from the conversations we’ve had while my video editing team is working on the filmed episodes.

I have also struggled with speaker identification. However, I’ve compared Pocket against another highly rated recorder with a similar form factor, Notion and one iPhone-based app. They all struggled with speaker identification to some degree. The software for the other recorder did allow me to correct the issue more easily. However, the Pocket Team has indicated they are working on this issue.

Prior to getting Pocket, I had been recording Zoom meetings with Notion. But it wasn’t convenient for in person meetings or phone calls. And it wasn’t useful for recording my own thoughts. I have a very bad habit of thinking I should make a note of something so I don’t forget it and forgetting to make the note. Pocket helps a lot with that.

Many of the most high value things in my life don’t happen on a computer. Conversations with my wife, Bible studies, sermons, conversations with friends, doctors appointments, interviews, etc.

Then you have the record phone call feature which for me has helped with: appointment information and details, longer conversations with anyone over phone call, etc.

Finally you have the easiest note taker. Any and all apps require a lot of hassle with your phone, on top of that, many prefer not to be on their phone as much.

I have been really impressed with Pocket, and it has quickly become one of my most preferred ways to interact with technology throughout my day. Given my memory is also not the best it comes in and can save the day too.

This is only the beginning. I think they have a lot of room to grow on the software side, taking all of these offline conversations, and extracting every ounce of value out of them whenever you reconnect with the internet. Just my two cents

The web app is a welcome addition but I am looking forward to the improvements.

The biggest feature I am waiting for personally is the global ‘Act Pocket Anything’ which really should enable it to have a complete view of your life rather than pieces of it hidden in disjoint meeting recordings.

I personally want to keep using it as a brain dump for ideas and plans and with the ‘Ask Pocket Anything’ be able to pull together scattered thoughts and ideas when it’s finally execution time. This, for my use case would make it much different from an AI transcriber in Zoom etc that can never have context beyond meetings.

I’m struggling with how to use it also. I use chatgpt and claude which both are able to take transcriptions (from meetings) and give me summaries. I like that pocket can record calls, but if I have to first click record every time I answer the phone, that’s likely to be forgotten most times.

I know it’s still early, but there seem to be many, many issues. I have yet to see any details or my “memories” because every time I click a memory I get the message, “hang tight, we’re pulling out key points” but it never updates.

And it seems is y that I have to upload the files each night or morning, which takes a very long time.

I was hoping I could just hit record and say, “add dentist appointment to but calendar for 4 pm” or “remind me to call John tomorrow at noon”, but it doesn’t seem to work like that.

Some video tutorials would be awesome.

I think I’m just not wrapping my head around this whole concept but I want it to work. My mind is disorganized and I can’t help but think this could help me be more organized.

It sounds like we [will] share the same user experience. I haven’t set up my device yet, as I had to travel before it was delivered, but I’ll be using it for precisely the same scenarios you mentioned.

hey @Stephenp messaged you to get some more details!

It’s great to read a lot of these use cases. Obviously, this is new so still learning the possibilities and how best to utilize the device. Excited to see more new features, in the meantime, I am going to see if web app helps me organize my summaries more easily and also stitch together discussions on same/similar topic.

I am mainly using it for work meetings (so would love it if it easily captured a trail of summaries for the same topic) and in the future hoping to use it for brainstorming ideas with the team.

hey! so we have daily summaries in our pipeline and you should see them soon can help you supercharge your pocket journey!

That’s great news! Looking forward to it.

I can’t speak for everybody here. But the reason I found and bought pocket was the “second brain" idea. Something (ai) recording my conversations. Ideally in person. Pc. Everywhere. Which pocket “will". Then I can “ask" it things. In the feature request you’ll see how I want to use it. If that’s implemented well. That’s what I’m looking for.

In its current state I’ve used it to summarize work meetings. Personal conversations. The recaps etc are good. Things need improving but it’s not awful the way it stands. The pocket crew is responsive. So nothing but hope for improvement here!

I’m hoping Pocket can be my replacement for my Otter subscription. Has anyone found a way to duplicate that yet??

I’ve never used Otter, but based on the description I’ve read of what it does, Pocket does pretty much the same things. Can you explain specifically what it is that Otter does for you that Pocket doesn’t?
