Shipping a bit misleading

I’m good with mine not being shipped out yet, but I have to say when purchasing, the way delivery was phrased, it was a bit misleading. It made it appear as if anyone who ordered at that time, would have their unit shipped by Sept 28. Now and only now has it been made clear that shipping would generally start on the 28th. So who knows when mine will actually be shipped out depending on where I am at in line. Just saying……

this has been going on for months….now its the Chinese. No shortage of excuses. But remember–there is a difference between transparency and lies—

Yes, and I understand product launches. I’ve been involved before. I’m just hoping it doesn’t take more than a few weeks to get it.

@Pgajmb1305 Totally hear you, and you’re right. We could’ve worded that more clearly. Saying “shipping starts September 28th” would’ve been more accurate than “ships on the 28th,” since we’re moving thousands of units in sequence.

Your Pocket is in the queue and will ship as soon as possible, most likely right after shipping resumes once the holiday ends.

That sounds great. I’m just anxious and excited to implement this into my daily routine. Especially anxious to utilize for business meetings where there are many topics and conversations happening. I will be curious to see how it decipher the conversations and frames them and helps build a roadmap, etc.

@Pgajmb1305 That excitement is exactly what Pocket was built for :raising_hands: We can’t wait for you to receive it and see how it organizes your meetings into clear roadmaps and action items. It’s going to be a game-changer in your daily flow!

There’s bound to be a few hiccups when a new product launches. I personally am very excited to the day it arrives. This is going to be so helpful to me with my adhd and aging brain. I just can’t remember things the way I used to. I appreciate the communication and transparency, Pocket!

@Lauren Love this and we very much appreciate that. Pocket was built exactly for minds like yours - fast, full, sometimes scattered, but full of gold that shouldn’t get lost. Aging brain or ADHD brain, it doesn’t matter. You’ll always have a clear trail of your own thoughts to lean on.

We’ll get it into your hands soon.

Totally agree. Hoping for this tool to be revolutionary to help me in my day to day life. You always seem to forget key moments whether in a meeting or simply trying to digest material real time. This should take the worry out of more taking etc. I’m super interested in seeing how it interprets meetings conversations.

I totally agree that it was misleading. I think the frustration is that I’m so excited.

Shouldn’t have sent out shipping notifications before the items were even delivered to the shipping partner. Misleading. Best practice would be to only send tracking once they’re with the actual courier for delivery. Otherwise the shipping notification was just aspirational and not real.

@eyeheartny We’ve sent out shipping notifications for all parcels that have left our fulfillment center. Akshay shared more details about the situation in the following thread Shipping Timeline Update

@pete-w Thanks, I’m well aware. I have a tracking number from you that hasn’t updated at all this week. I’ve read the updates as well.

What you’re not getting is that sending a tracking number in an email that says “your order has shipped” when you knew full well that the holiday would delay movement and before the courier actually has the items is a bad move. What it looks like to me is you all wanted to be able to claim that “we shipped the first batch before the end of September” when that’s not true. If I look on the Chinese tracking side I can see that the items are not even with the courier on that side of the world. It looks like a BS claim that you’ve shipped when that isn’t actually true in reality.

You should have delayed sending the tracking numbers until the items were actually tendered to the courier. Otherwise it just smacks of self congratulation and a way to claim you’ve done something you haven’t done in reality.

@eyeheartny I’d appreciate if we could keep the conversation respectful. A few clarifications on what you mentioned:

  • “Your order has shipped” → This is accurate. Once a parcel leaves the warehouse, fulfillment is complete and a tracking number is automatically generated. That’s standard practice with 3rd-party logistics.

  • “Courier doesn’t have the parcel” → The courier does have it, but during the Golden Week holiday parcels move very slowly and don’t always get scanned right away. That’s why it can look inactive on the tracking side even though the shipment is in transit. There’s no point in delaying tracking until after the holiday, because the first thing couriers clear once operations resume is the backlog from right before the holiday.

  • “Claiming to have shipped before September ended” → There’s no PR spin here. Units did leave the warehouse before the end of September, but the holiday slowed the handover process.

The timing wasn’t ideal, but your unit is shipped and on its way. Thanks for your patience while it clears this holiday period.

I would say that the shipping announcements likely could have been handled differently, or you all may have been better served to have added a disclaimer with regard to shipping and time frames due to unforeseen items or items out of your control. However, from the consumer standpoint, all of us that have ordered these should keep in mind that we are coming in at the ground level. We must all exercise patience, and understand that there is going to be hiccups from time to time when you launch a new product. I have been involved in many of these so if you could understand that it isn’t always 100% smooth it would probably help to alleviate some of the concerns or pains that people are having over when they’re going to receive their units. Let’s help these folks launch this product successfully by being understanding human beings, and simply exercise some patience. This is just my take.

@pete-w fascinating approach to customer communication. Defensive and seemingly unable to simply say “we realize this looks bad when we’re already late and sent info that doesn’t match what our own emails said, we have heard your feedback and pledge to do better next time, we’ll extend your Pro subscription by a month to say thanks for your patience.”

I am accountable for these sorts of deadlines in my day job. Humility and acknowledgement of mistakes is the only way I know how to operate. Doesn’t seem to be Pocket’s MO and it’s really disappointing. You all did a poor job of communicating about delays in production as well, so my regret in backing your product is higher by the day.

I received my shipping notice for Pocket, and like many of you, I have been refreshing the tracking link without seeing much movement yet. I understand the impatience. We have all been waiting a while and are eager to get this in hand.

That said, I do not believe there is anything deceptive going on. Every time I have reached out, customer service has been quick to respond and helpful. For those raising concerns about transparency, I would ask if you tried emailing them directly. In my experience, they have been open and responsive.

I also see value in the fact that the team is posting updates here. Not every early-stage company takes the time to do that, and to me it reflects an effort to keep us informed, even if the logistics side is taking longer than we would all prefer.

I am just as excited and impatient as everyone else, but I would encourage us not to jump to conclusions. Growing pains and logistics challenges do happen, and I would rather give them the space to get it right.

Huge thanks to the Pocket team for being transparent!

@eyeheartny We 100% acknowledge we could have communicated better around the timing, and Akshay already addressed that in his update here: Shipping Timeline Update

My reply was focused on clarifying the specific accusations you raised - particularly the idea that nothing had shipped. Units did leave the warehouse before the holiday, but as explained, movement was slowed by the Golden Week backlog.

We take everyone’s feedback on board to improve how we handle these communications going forward. We appreciate your patience.
