Sync by WiFi always fails, iPhone latest iOS

Can anyone help getting WiFi sync working? Here’s what I’m finding, some “Bug” suggestions below:

1. “… Files ready to Sync” – I get “Unable to join Wifi POCKET…”

2. Try the hint in suggested guide, “Quickly reset DNS to 0.0.0.0” so I try to do that but cannot do it fast enough, I get “Unable to join” sync failed. Please explain further or give us a better work-around.

3. From “Unable to connect” I go to iPhone settings, see the WiFi access point “POCKET…”, tap that access point, try to join. But this requires a password, one we don’t have. Please tell us a password for the POCKET WiFi so we can connect at this point.

4. Try again sync files by WiFi. This time, quickly go to iPhone Settings…. WiFI… Tap POCKET access point, verify that DNS is Manual and 0.0.0.0, maybe connection will work this time. It does not. Same failure, “Unable to connect.”

5. WiFi firmware v6 available… OK this might solve the problem, I tap that. There’s no option to do this by Bluetooth, just Wifi. Connecting to WiFi… Join. “Update in progress,” but then “Update failed, Socket exception…” message flashes for 2 seconds, disappears before I can read the rest of the message. If WiFi firmware v6 will solve the WiFi problem, can you please set up so that update can proceed by Bluetooth? And, please leave error messages up until we clear them.

6. Try to sync latest recordings from Pocket to phone. Start Sync… WiFi Sync… “Syncing file 1 of 5”… “Join.” Syncing shows zero percent. For a long time. Then, Pocket screen goes back to “5 files ready to sync.” Please show an error message when Sync fails.

7. Repeat #5, with Bluetooth Sync… Syncing file 1 of 5… After ten minutes, we have 12%. Friends, there must be something wrong here, Bluetooth file transfer just cannot be this slow.

Hey @Richard, DMed you to get more information.

I’m having the same issue! :frowning:

Hey @Katie8542, DMed you

Appreciate the immediate response from Pocket. They are working on it.

I’m having a similar issue. Mine will connect once, get to 2% and then the WiFi will disconnect. I’ll restart the app and try again, but it says unable to connect every time until I restart my phone. Then it goes through the same cycle. I updated today too.

My Sync connects to the Pocket WiFi and then hangs at 1-3% and never advances.

hey @Raleighwood @EJBrooksby me and my colleague @bharat are looking into this could you confirm if you have upgraded to the latest wifi firmware version? or if you could send us some details on hey@heypocket.com it will help us investigate better

I updated the firmware last night, hoping it would resolve the issue. It did not.

Yes same. I am on 0.4.6+213

@mhirrrr @bharat

You ask “How you updated to latest WiFi firmware?”

No, that’s just the problem. That update requires WiFi which is not working for me. Any work-arounds? Any way to get the WiFi update by Bluetooth?

Same here. Failed sync several times. Bluetooth starts over evwytime phone sleeps, and its so slow, can’t sit and tap the phone for hours. Makes the device useless, since you can’t access any recording until it syncs.

attaching @bharat to take a look at this thanks!

Hey Adam,
Please try these troubleshooting steps to fix the Wi-Fi Sync/Firmware issue

  1. Restart the app – close it completely, then reopen and retry.
  2. Stay close to the device – keep your phone near the Pocket Wi-Fi.
  3. Disable mobile hotspot – turn it off if it’s active.
  4. Enable location services – the app may need it for Wi-Fi discovery.
  5. Turn off battery saver mode – it can interfere with background processes.
  6. Keep the app in the foreground – don’t minimize it for at least 30 seconds during connection.
  7. Forget Pocket Wifi - go to Wi-Fi settings → Saved networks, find the network starting with “PKT,” tap Forget, then try connecting again.
  8. Disable VPN – if a VPN is on, turn it off before retrying.

Hey Friends -

I got a modest improvement in WiFi sync on my iPhone by

  • Settings… Apps… Pocket
  • Turn on “Local Network”

Now WiFi sync works sometimes (maybe 2/3 of the time) and fails in middle of sync (maybe 1/3 of the time)
