Wifi Never Works & Wifi v6 "Update" Doesn't Work Either

I’m having nothing but trouble with my Pocket device.

I’m on an Android phone and no matter what I do by restarting the Pocket device, restarting my phone, going in and out of airplane mode, or anything else that’s been recommended, I absolutely cannot update the Wi-Fi and the Wi-Fi version that I’m currently apparently using doesn’t work either.

As can be seen by many other posts with users having problems with wifi sync, it appears the Pocket app is buggy hot garbage, and the recommended “trouble shooting” tips do not work.

Someone please tell me that there’s a programmer or an engineer aware of these problems and that somebody is working to fix it.

In the meantime, can other users report actual tips that work to get this device to sync?

Hey @micromano have you emailed us at hey@heypocket.con to check it out?

Meanwhile as an alternative please try using

This is almost instantaneous!

Same exact thing here, no resolution, method works. I also have another voice recording AI pendant and that thing syncs like a beast, fast, transparent and never fails. @heypocket why cant you just copy their technical approach?

Same here tried everything I can think of to help debug this and it just continually fails to sync.

hey, we are aware of the issues during Wi-Fi sync and we’re noticing that this happens for bigger files. That is why we suggest Web Sync for any long recordings. We are working on improving this experience round the clock along with having the device itself connect to Wi-Fi and directly upload to our system so we can process the recordings so it removes the need to sync altogether.

one thing we have noticed is that restarting device sometime solves the wifi connection issues and please make sure your location permissions are switched on for wifi to work well.

The syncing issues have broken my experience using this device. Initially when received my device, the Bluetooth sync was consistent and reliable so I always used it as the WiFi sync was 100% unusable. Over time the Bluetooth sync has become anise as unreliable for me. I do not have the luxury of time to tinker and troubleshoot every time I want to use this thing. I went from enjoying using it to now groaning internally when I try to use or think it would be handy. Maybe I’ll check back in 6 months or so. My frustration with this has gotten worse had I ended up getting a reMarkable table for work and have started taking more handwritten notes on it. I have 0 issues using that. Every time I need it I open it up and start writing. That’s how poor my experience has been with the Pocket and how big of an issue the syncing has been for me. I’m on an iPhone 16 PM us g the most up to date app and device firmwares.

hey @03-orchid.evaders DMed you

I’ve got the same phone and the same exact experience. Has anybody figured out how to get this to work?

I actually have an update to share on this since you asked! I was able to have it sync over wi-fi on the first attempt with a test recording this morning and it was very, very fast.

I had come across another comment (can’t remember if it was in this thread or another) that mentioned an update turning off the local network permission for the Pocket app. When I first started using the app I made sure this and all other permissions were turned on and hadn’t thought about rechecking after the most recent update as I’ve never had another app turn off one random permission after an update. I went in to the settings and found the local network toggle in the off position just this morning. I toggled it back to the on position and immediately jumped back in to the Pocket app and it worked perfectly on the first try. This could be the game changer that gets me to using this every day like I had initially wanted to.

Thanks for this advice, I was trying to upgrade to wifi v7 and it would not do anything.

Syncing has always been hit and miss and has left a bad taste or feeling of dread whenever I want to use my device I’ve always looked forward to and had determined would probably be the best if the options at the time. One of the commenters above me described my feelings exactly.

When I saw the firmware update, I was like, oh, maybe they finally fixed Wi-Fi or radio services for faster and more reliable syncs.

BTW with Wi-Fi syncs, I originally thought my ad-blockers were interfering, and had slightly better luck adding the pocket app to exemptions. But overall not reliable at all for the lengths of my recordings.

Then nothing would update with the firmware.

I found this thread searching for the reset sequence, and saw the notes about app permission.

I killed the app process and then checked my permissions, but everything was granted to the app still.

I decided to revoke all permissions, and enable them manually, except location was set to ask everytime and high precision.

I then launched the app again and got the permission prompt screen, accepted location for the session and proceeded to click the upgrade firmware. It worked this time.

I’m thinking maybe while the app had the permission in general, maybe it didn’t have the permission scope of my version of Android.

Hopefully this update will make this device work the way I had hoped it would.

I actually purchased multiple devices for gifts, but due to my experience, I have not gifted them out and have held out until it was more friendly because I know the people I would have given them to would have not used them with how they were released.

Update: Wi-Fi syncing was doing nothing, but I was able to see the pocket Wi-Fi network in my Wi-Fi listing, but it said password required, while also saved at the same time.

I decided to have my phone forget the pocket Wi-Fi network.

When I went back into pocket, it was able to eventually Wi-Fi sync.

So far a success, and hopefully this will help others.
