Weird Transcript showed up on my summary this morning

Hi,

I got my pocket recently and have been using it on/off for meetings, just kind of getting my feet wet, so I’m not an advanced user of this product by any means.. but I’m not entirely helpless with technology.

I don’t record anything overnight, and make sure that the Pocket is not recording after I’m done with my workday.

However, this morning at 6am, there was a 6 hour meeting that popped into my app - a multilingual conversation (see photo attached). My settings at the time were for just phone calls anyway, so no ambient noise would have been recorded. It’s the weirdest thing.. mixes of English, Russian, Spanish, German - across all topics, COVID is in the screenshot, but there’s talk of apps, facebook, sales, you name it.

I was not awake when this was recorded and I didn’t have any noise in my office (where my pocket sleeps). This is so strange - is it possible that this was someone else’s recording that found its way to my phone?

Hey @Jessica it isn’t possible to access someone else’s recordings. This seems to be your recording and Phone Mode can capture ambient noise as well.

I appreciate that the intention is for there not to be any misplaced recordings. But this recording started around midnight and stopped at 6am. This could not have been manually turned on, as my household was asleep during this time. Also, from the transcript (attaching more screenshots), it’s clear that this isn’t ambient noise (I have had plenty of those as well, as I have just had the recording on unknowingly which is why I’m careful about it now) and that noise always is nonsense (or occasionally, whatever lyrics from a song I am surely singing off key). Is there a way to completely shut this device off to prevent these junk recordings?

I checked the logs, and the recording was indeed started from your device, it’s not possible to start a session without the button being pressed. It’s possible the Pocket was left turned on before you went to sleep, though I don’t want to speculate.

To make sure it stays off completely, you can hold the Record button for 5 seconds to power it down. It’ll stay off until you manually turn it back on doing the same again.

AI can occasionally interpret background noise in surprising ways, but rest assured, recordings can only begin through a physical button press on your device.

Update: I was able to export and listen to audio – turns out my house is just haunted, sorry for any confusion…

Oh my gosh! I’m hooked now!! Please share more! What could you hear on the audio recording? I still haven’t figured out how to access the audio recordings. And my goicrnis never recognized during conversations, just “Speaker 0” even after recalibrating it.

Perfect Halloween theme! Good post!

Looks like GPT 2 off the rails.

It’s kind of a pain, you have to airdrop to a device.

The file is too large to attach here. There are lots of sounds that can be interpreted as voices. Some were REALLY low pitched and some were like a normal speaking pitch. My brain translated them into voices, like eavesdropping in a restaurant. I’m sure it’s just ambient noise but it was fun to listen through the recording.

I accidentally left mine on in the car and it picked up a few hiphop songs, and then the Pocket summary of those was hilarious!
