Why arent these happening in the background once i have sync’ed? I open a summary, i get the “hang tight, we’re pulling out the key points…” and sometimes this takes minutes (not seconds). Why is this something that can happen in the background and just be ready for me to review?
This is a great idea!
Hey guys! Great question. There are two parts to this:
1. Why summaries aren’t generated in the background:
When you sync a recording, it needs to upload to our servers first before we can generate the summary. Right now, both iOS and Android kill our app’s processes in the background to save battery, which stops the upload from completing. This means we can’t start working on your summary until the upload finishes.
2. What we’re doing about it:
We’re actively working on better solutions to handle this—our goal is to get your summaries ready automatically without you having to wait with the app open. We know the current experience isn’t ideal, and improving this is a top priority for us.
In the meantime, keeping the app open on your screen while syncing ensures your recordings upload successfully and summaries get generated right away.
Thank you.
The issue is even when app is open, the screen eventually locks and app is then backgrounded. So its not feasible to keep touching the screen to essentially keep it active.
I think by asking additional user permissions to run in the background, this should be doable ![]()
Thanks @mhirrrr This is great news! So awesome you guys are working so hard for everyone!
I am frustrated with this as well. I hvaen’t used mine for anything serious yet (don’t want to risk it!) but I have recorded a few test conversations … some as few as 15 seconds. It’s been 20 minutes to pull out the key points from my 15 second recording and I’m still “hanging tight.”
I’m on Android 16. My “app work flow" with pocket looks like this.
Record the meeting (or thing)
Launch the app
Choose wifi. Let it auto connect and find. It’ll auto upload the the meeting.
Then I force close the app and relaunch
Then it "syncs with cloud”
I’ve never had to wait for a “hang tight" message more than what is call normal > 5 mins for a 1 hour long meeting.
I’m not saying it’s intended to be this way. But I’ve worked with different types of apps/devices like this and I’m not patient enough to wait for them to figure it out. Every app version I’ll give it the " old college try” and wait. But the force close app works faster it seems.
Hey Guys! We are currently investigating an issue specific to Android phone where this is happening. We are sorry for this and we should have a resolution in the first half of the week
Hey @Youfoundsarah I also want to assure you that you wont have any problems even for longer recordings. We have a lot of people who have already integrated Pocket into their daily lives and loving it.
@mhirrrr - Add me to the list of folks experiencing this.
Files do appear to be syncing over wifi - but I am unable to see summaries on new or previous recordings where I could.
Phone Info:
GAlaxy S25 Ultra
Happy to send a screen shot of software information if needed. Just let me know.
Edited to add - I can see the summaries in the web app
Edited x2 to note that my issue has been resolved @bharat helped me fix - and it was simply updating the app (apologies for not thinking to check this first) - as always - superb customer service!! You guys rawk!
This is interesting. I am on an iPhone 16PM and mine will sometimes auto-sync AND upload in the background. Sometimes I have to open the app and do everything manually, but sometimes I’ll get stuck in a conversation or something right after I stop recording and will forget to do it but will still get a notification saying everything is ready ![]()
