WiFi firmware update v4 fails

Good morning, everyone. I received my Pocket yesterday, and successfully paired it with my iPhone.

I performed the device firmware update to v0.7, but the wifi firmware update fails every time with a timeout / socket error message.

I’ve tried powering down both devices, and also moving them to another location without any nearby bluetooth devices. No success so far.

Should I try resetting the device? Thanks for any help you can provide.

This is almost always an iOS network cache issue.

Step 1 (quick + reversible): Forget your home Wi-Fi temporarily

  1. iPhone Settings → Wi-Fi

  2. Tap the ⓘ next to your home network

  3. Tap Forget This Network (you can rejoin right after the update)

Step 2: Run the Pocket Wi-Fi update

  • Open the Pocket app → Profile/Settings → Wi-Fi Firmware Update

  • When iOS prompts, tap Join for the “Pocket-…“ network and stay on that screen until it completes.

If you’d rather not forget the network, you can instead tap the ⓘ and toggle Auto-Join OFF during the update, then turn it back on after.

@Akshay & @pete-w would it make sense to create a specific “Troubleshooting” Category to house what seems to be many “start up” questions? I know there is the Get Started & Setup Category already so just a thought for organization…

Thanks for the quick reply, Akshay. It took a couple tries, but it worked.

“Forgot” both onsite wifi networks. Powered down both devices. Powered back up. WiFi off on iPhone.

Started wifi firmware update, it got past the download and started the “updating device” process. It briefly flashed an error message and then said update failed.

I powered down the device, powered it back up, and tried again. It completed successfully, start to finish, it less than a minute.

Thanks again, and have a great day!

I think it makes a lot of sense. Combing through a long chain of comments just to find things can be cumbersome.

I couldn’t get the update to work last night, but then I moved the app and the pocket to my ipad mini, it updated and did everything today 1-2-3 – I am 99.9% certain it was an iphone with the new software issue as I have been having problems with other apps. more info to follow after this week of testing!!

I had this same problem. I swipe closed the iOS app and reopened it and tried again and it worked

The second time I got a pop up prompt to allow discovery of devices over WiFi.

I’ve tried and it fails each time :frowning:

it just won’t connect to it

Is your device also iOS? I’m wondering if this is unique to the Apple ecosystem.

All three devices that I have tried this on are iOS. One I purposely do not have connected to Wi-fi any where

I have a similar issue with the wifi firmware update. It says it completes successfully, but, according to the app, it’s still at v3. It keeps asking me to update, but every time it stays at v3. I followed all the instructions. Reset network settings on phone, tried my iPad, reset pocket, nothing seems to work. Thank you.

Update: tried with Android. Same thing. Says update was successful, but app reports v3.

I’ve seen several comments about users unable to upgrade the firmware. This is very concerning.

hey! the team is actively looking into this and will keep you updated. thanks

I’m stuck on update as well. If it’s only 0.7mb perhaps an option to download on cell network would help.

@ansb29 Is yours also an iOS device?

Yes sir. And my OS is up to date, in case that helps.

This appears to be an ongoing issue with iOS devices. Hopefully, they get it resolved as soon as possible.

I’m having similar problems on an up-to-date Galaxy S24 Ultra
