Abysmal audio quality

Hi all,

My pocket came in the mail a few days ago and in terms of product design it’s a lovely little object.

With that being said, I’m beyond disappointed in the audio quality and functionality. It would have been great if at the very least the recording quality was listed somewhere on the website. I’m leaning towards returning.

I’m a musician and was hoping to use pocket to jot down quick ideas to store as demos, but upon playback I found that it was as if it were recorded through the choppiest phone call of all time. Essentially unusable. (See sample below) I understand this is not the designated use case for Pocket but this is beyond. It feel disengenous to not elaborate on the audio quality when offering a product like this beyond “dual microphones”.

I tested it on meetings as well, and it was getting key quotes wrong during the conversation causing me to have to go back and audit the whole conversation however what I found is the same issue. Extremely muffled all around brutal audio quality.

I don’t really see a way around this aside from a completely new build that offers superior audio quality which will in turn improve transcription.

hey @wife_immaterial could you please ensure you are using the Conversation mode when recording as this will provide a better quality then Call mode (due to the vibration mike it a lot more sensitive)
regarding key quotes we would love to understand how to make your experience better, messaging you about the same)

Hi,

I specifically started with Conversation mode, then tried “call mode” in hopes it would improve. It was the same if not worse. Neither are good and I would describe them as comparable in terms of quality or lack thereof.

Audio recording and playback have never been functions of pocket (correct me if I’m wrong here) but after using the web app and noticing a substantial improvement in quality of transcriptions, I attribute this to pocket’s inbuilt mics.

Perhaps you can try recording your musical ideas using the web app as a work around if possible.

PS: Loved what I heard despite it being muffled.

Yes, totally hear that it’s not the designated use. With that being said, there is enormous room for improvement in audio quality given the price point especially when comparing to options like “Pl4ud” or Anker etc.

PS: Thank you!!! <3

never did recieve that messeage…

hey @wife_immaterial really sorry we missed this due to the weekend sent you a message do let us know how we can help
